only parts that aren't compatible are the spring guide and the cylinder head if I'm not mistaken... Dom or Star or a couple others could clarify if I'm wrong.

I believe cylinder heads are still the same. Some V3 cylinder heads may be a little longer, but I'm 95% sure that the two are cross compatible.

The spring guide is different, and of course that whole motor-cage-attached-to-the-gearbox thing.

Hmm always thought that there was a difference since most retailers seem to put, "Cylinder head for Ver 3" /"... Ver 2" in their descriptions...

and of course the motor mounting is different along with the motor itself, but i don't consider those internals of the GB itself :P

I think this is just an advertising ploy. Because at the same time, there are many cylinder head out there listed for v2s or v3s.

Yep, they are with some exceptions for a longer one in some models. In addition to the spring guides being different (with some exceptions, notably the V2s in KWAs use V3 spring guides) the wiring/contact assembly, triggers (which have an odd secondary fulcrum attached to the actual trigger that pushes the contact slide forward in the V3, whereas the trigger itself does so in a V2), the air nozzles can also be model specific (naturally), and the cutoff lever is very different between the two. That's all I can think of though. V3s are generally considered to be better for DMR builds due to their natural shell strength, however this can be negated by using a V2 shell known to withstand higher springs or by using a STS in a metal bodied AR. I however, have had a harder time with more of my V3 DMR builds. That is mostly attributable to bad luck though IMO.
