anti-fog spray worth my time..

Post by thebutnugget » Tue Oct 02, 2012 12:21 am

I have not had any luck with some of the generic anti-fog sprays, so i gave up the hope to use my full seal goggles.. and now im seeing that more and more fields are requiring full seal, so do any of you guys know of/used any sort of spray or wipes that actually work with goggles and glasses?

Sadly, I have to agree with Dominum. As I wear glasses under my goggles, its a double curse. In 25 years I've yet to find an anti-fog spray-on that actually works well for any length of time. I've had marginal success with soapy water, allowed to dry on the inside of the lens, back in my paintball days. But the ultimate solution is indeed fully sealed periphery mesh, or, if you must have a lensed goggle, get one with the maximum amount of airspace inside, keeping the lens as far away from your hot and humid face as possible, and allowing the most possible airflow. Low profile goggles fog faster than non low profile designs.

I've only had to wear lenses 4 times (they were required), and what I did worked for about an hour to an hour and a half at a time before it fogged up; unless it was very dry weather, then it worked for about four hours. I used WileyX goggles with a fan kit (not the kind with the tube, but I think the tube kind is better now that I have seen it versus mine). I removed the lenses and applied either a silicon based anti fog spray per the directions, or cat crap per the directions. So, even WITH a fan AND anti fog treatments, I still have to reapply regularly. It's a major PITA, I was blind half the time at Southern Comfort (from fog, not just the blood). I saw SO many people removing goggles in the game to wipe that I made the argument to John Lu that mesh was much less dangerous by that fact alone, to which he agreed.... until his vendors convinced him to just tell everyone to buy their magical high flow vent goggles... that STILL fog like everything else with a lense.

Well, not the "fencing" mask style I use. Most of the larger ones will fit glasses. I used to wear these (minus all the hoopla):

I think I let Jacob borrow them one time and his glasses fit well under them, but you should check to be sure.

for me , I like mesh , but when I do have to wear full seal glasses I use somthing I picked up at Soco , and I used it at Irene , was Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo. It is cheap and easy to use . Just add a drop and rub it in with your finger. Then wipe off the excess with a rag. apply agian when needed ,it way to cheap to complain.

As a certified scuba diver, I know that using a J&J/ dreft mix works wonders. I would reccomend looking at dive shops for anti fog stuff. that stuff is heavy duty.

I've been using Fogtech since Robin hosted the last SC vs. NC game (eons ago), and haven't been disappointed. Before I leave for games, I rinse and dry the lenses. Then I apply the fogtech, wait for it to dry, then they don't leave my face. Keeping em on ensures they don't get smudged and dirty from handling them.

Some glasses seem to work with antifog better than others. I can vouch that my winchester shooting glasses work wonderfully with it. As long as I follow those few steps, my glasses are crystal clear the whole game.
