Technically July 4 is when we(as British colonies) declared our independence from Great Britain, We didn't actually be come the US of A until June 21, 1788. Study your history and may your god(s) "bless" our nation.

I think it's fairly obvious the 4th of July is recognized as when we became independent, hence the name Independence Day, regardless of the fact of when the nation was actually formed. I don't recall any holidays on June 21st.

Thanks for the shout outs; I will be reading a lot of them on the air tomorrow (not all of them, hehe). I should have explained my early posting a little better. Our 2 July show was the Happy Birthday America episode, and I wanted some shout outs to read that day on air. Of course I had an epic fail and didn't get to print them out before hand...so, they will be read tomorrow.

Oh...side note - We actually declared ourselves free and independent at the Pennsylvania Colonial Statehouse on July 2, 1776, and on July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was passed. If you want to get technical about what we were called back in 1776, it was actually the United Colonies of America...I believe you will find that the first federal charter of the United States took effect on March 1, 1781. This was when the Continental Congress deemed the Perpetual Union of the United States of America under the Articles of Confederation fully ratified. The Secretary entered the name of United States in Congress Assembled on the top of the Journal March 2, 1781, role was then taken, and Samuel Huntington was entered into the records as President (note that the Library of Congress holds the Journals of Congress and of the United States in Congress Assembled for the year 1781, and I have a copy on my bookcase, hehe.) So, the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled under the ratified 1781 Articles of Confederation, our First Constitution, was actually Samuel Huntington. George Washington was the first President of the United States under the ratified 1788 US Constitution. We had 10 Presidents prior to George Washington. Isn’t history fun!
