Chronographs

Post by Clutch » Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:10 pm

Something I've noticed at most games was that my gun chrono's higher at games than it does at home. At home I've chrono'd with a Guarder and a Madbull which they are always really close if not the same. The ones I've noticed that chrono high are the ones that you shoot between the antenna's (not sure what these are called).  So I've walked away from the chrono stations scratching my head.

At the game this weekend, the guy from GEARS was really pleased with his newly purchased Airsoft GI sniper and how well it performed so I took a look at it at Airsoftgi when I found this video about chronoing velocities above 450. Check this out and tell me what you think.

I'm always tweaking my gun and would hate to show up with it tweaked right up to the field limit and then find that I'm over.

Even Smoke was wondering why he always chronoed higher at the games.  I guess now we know!

I know when I run chrono for games, the Madbull chrono and light sensing chrono usually read roughly the same FPS for lower powered guns. I always chrono higher-powered guns on the more accurate chronograph, hence I never noticed the disparity. I'll definitely want to do a similar test with our chronographs and some high FPS rifles at the next event.

Cool. Let me know what you find out. According to that footage, the light sensing chrono was reading 20 to 25 FPS higher.

With my KWA M16. Currently running a well broke in M140 spring and shooting .3s the light chrono clocked me at 370fps. I have yet to shoot .3s on the guarder chrono, but will this afternoon. Last time I chrono with it was with .2s at 448fps.

Yeah, those numbers sound in line.  From what Tim said in that video, the madbulls and guarders, etc  won't mis-read until 450 fps. I'm guessing your readings will be close to each other.

Interesting conclusion last night. Chargeg up the Guarder and ran the 16 with the .3s.. Outcome 356fps. Now that's a pretty big difference.

And that would be right at the 450 fps mark (.2's) he mentioned in the vid

If I remember correctly, the KWA's we've measured at home on the Madbull and or Guarder, have measured consistently with the  ones at the games. These were running right at 400fps w/.2's.. But my VSR has never chrono'd what I expected at a game unless it was a chrono other than the Chrony F1 (isn't that the name/model?).

So I've been reading up on the Chrony F1 now and considering buying one. But alot of the reviews talk about how unreliable they are indoors which I do most of my testing in the garage at night so I may be SOL.

As far as a chronograph is concerned, a 350FPS .3 is the same as a 350FPS .2. 356 vs 370 is not a huge difference, but it is in line with the ~20FPS difference shown in the video.

Good point. 350 is 350 to the crhono no matter what weight BB.

Who provides the Chrono for the AOSC games SteevoLS?

We bought two using field fee money a while back. I can't remember at the moment, but I think the first is a Madbull rechargeable chrono.
