It's because it isn't connected to the forum's username/password database yet. You can use whatever name you want, just don't use a password.
There's no kill switch on awesome!

Update: Toolbar on the bottom of the page. Our database/chatroom connection is more or less screwed until I can get in touch with the guy who owns this server. This toolbar should take care of that issue for the time being, though.

The only issue with the toolbar is that you have to use Facebook/Twitter/Yahoo/whatever to log in. This is all good and well, except that some people don't have accounts with those services, and you can't use your forum username.
There's no kill switch on awesome!
