Martial Arts

Post by Doublewolf » Wed Feb 16, 2011 8:41 pm

Does anybody here do some form of Martial Art? I'm a yellow belt in Taekwondo. I started out as a little kid, but then I stopped, and I just recently started it back up again. I love it. It's fun and useful, and it gives you a great workout.

I studied a bit of sayoc cali, then transitioned into learning to fight with two weapons, one strong side and one weak side. By far my favorite combination is a Western W49 bowie knife on weak side and my Cold Steel either spike hawk or trailhawk on strong side (lefthand for me). I do a fair bit of hawk throwing too. Not too into the whole eastern martial arts stuff. I never Bought into or got the whole zen thing

I'm a level 1 MACP combatant, just like any soldier who's been through BCT.  For the uninformed or uninitiated it's a mix of Gracie Jujitsu (ground fighting) and Muay Thai (striking) although pretty much all you learn (in BCT at least) is the ground fighting part.

My dad is a 2nd degree black belt and I believe my friend at school is a 1st degree.

I used to do it as a little kid, but I could never find the time to get back into it.

Taekwondo, Kendo, Aikido, and kickboxing.

Pretty much everything had to stop after  breaking my knee.

I am not one for stringent physical activity, not that you can tell though, you know, because of my extremely toned figure and all.

My father owned a Traditional Shotokan Karate studio and was extremely involved in it. He was close friends with Hidetaka Nishiyama and traveled all over doing camps and seminars with him. As a kid I remembered being amazed at how ridiculously awesome Hidetaka Nishiyama was, despite being ancient and drinking and smoking like no one else I've ever seen. I still have a lot of his old books signed by all the authors.
