Mod suggestions

Post by Nabors » Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:47 pm

I recently purchased this G&G FN HERSTAL Scar. I am making this aeg my primary and want it to be one of the best field aegs out there. I want this gun to have deadly accuracy with a good range and a above avg rps. Just wanting to get some ideas of where to start. Still relatively new to the airsoft community. I also have a m16 dmr I'm working on with the help of Star_Folder so I'm not wanting to make this aeg a dmr. Just a outstanding rifle. I have military back ground so that's why i want to make this rifle as accurate as possible. If i see someone i wanna be able to hit them within a few hits and not have to spray hoping one goes where I am aiming. Like I am relatively new but i new a decent amount from working with Star_Folder. Just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Oh I will be taking it apart and painting the upper receiver flat black so excuse the horrible color for now

What you want/need:

Fairly low MED (50' is a manageable distance)
Consistency (quality hopup and consistent compression)

... and that's it. A good compression tuneup and a nice hopup bucking (perhaps a tightbore aswell?) will have this rifle performing about as well as it can.

Yea thats what I was thinking steevoLS. Was looking and i can find a 6.01 barrel i and only find 6.03s. I was also looking at the systema hop up bucking. As for as compression idk that much about what all id need.

I have heard that 6.01 barrels actually decrease accuracy. A lot of our snipers and designated marksmen seem to prefer 6.03.
I do not always accidentally, but when I do, I accidentally the whole thing.

Have you used one? Or have reasoning?

A quality 6.03 will beat a budget 6.01, but a quality and cleaned 6.01 will beat any 6.03

When it comes to hopups and barrels, you can't really throw around absolutes.

Here's an absolute, when it comes to barrels, it's the quality and material that are important, not the bore size. Stainless steel is the best material, it's dense, solid, reducing vibrations, and it's very strong, meaning it's very unlikely to be damaged by anything, or bent, like madbull barrels can be. Quality, well, there's a point where the quality doesn't matter much, aka, it's peaked. PDI, Prometheus, Madbull, these companies have some of the highest quality barrels on the market. PDI and Prometheus both are stainless steel and of equivalent quality. Their budget barrels are also very nice, and still rank highly up there.

But, something else I have discovered through all my working with accuracy, the barrel has the smallest effect on the accuracy of a rifle. As long as it's straight and smooth, it's not going to adversely effect your bb that you will see a difference in performance. It comes down to the cost/performance ratio, and for a barrel, it's a pretty high ratio, which isn't good. It's much more worth your money to have a good hop up system, and to have excellent compression.

Well, the "steel > not steel" one generally holds true. :P

pish-posh, everyone knows not steel > steel. Haven't you heard about the secret material that LPEGs are made of?

My L96 uses an Edgi 6.01 barrel. My only issue is that I was foolish to not buy a PDI hopup chamber, and with the L96's hopup, I still get curves to the left at about 200ft. Maybe it can be modded to a flat hopup, but the barrel I use itself is very nice. Brass, heavy, much thicker than stock barrel.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Edgi barrels. They are also some of the highest quality barrels out there. They've also got a nice little thing where they'll make a custom barrel for you, which is something no other company will do. If only they'd do it with a steel barrel...
