I have been loking at the G&G m14 for a while and I was wandering if anyone has it and their thoughts on it. If so, how upgradeable is it because I have read that it uses 'unique' parts. I plan on turning it into a DMR so if you have any suggestions, post them up. I was also looking at the CA m14 but I have yet to do any research.

Ok then, CA it is. Would you happen to know what gearbox version it is?

All M14s are V7s (other than the PPSH, the only V7). However, CA and G&G M14s are not true V7s, as they each have a number of modifications that allow them to run more V2/3 parts and thus thet are easier and cheaper to upgrade.

Ok, and a final question: what motor type do they run on? Long, medium, or short?

Uh Grave has 3 G&G M14's. G&G is definitely better stock. CA is a G&G clone. IMO G&G all the way

I have come to the decision of having it right under 400 fps. I like the m14 as a battle rifle more than a dmr. So for an extra $5 I should go for the G&G?

Chippy, the best gun I ever owned was a G&G M14 Socom. They are very easily upgradable. I would def recommend the G&G as a base gun and upgrade as needed.

I got my G&G about 5 days ago put about 800 rds and i love it so far I'm thinking of doing the same thing hope it works out for you

My G&G is an absolute workhorse, and out performs any other gun I've ever owned. They come shooting at roughly 350, then drop down a little bit after a few thousand rounds. Depending on which chrono I use, mine is shooting anywhere from 300 - 340, but I don't care how hot it's shooting, it has outstanding range and accuracy. If I were you, I would just buy the G&G and drop in an M120. A new piston/cylinder head might not be a bad idea, but the stock internals are very durable.

And if you're picky about externals, the G&G has the most awesome feeling stock ever, thanks to the textured nylon stuff that G&G uses instead of normal ABS plastic.

Once again, you are disagreeing with me by saying exactly what I just said LOL!
Yes, CA may be a G&G clone (They are similar, but I cant find confirmation that they are a clone), but they made more compatibility improvements that make it a more ideal base for a DMR, which is what the OP said he wanted. G&G is only better if you want to leave it stock.

So, as I said, if you want to overhaul it as a DMR, buy the CA; if you want to leave it stock, buy the G&G. I have owned and worked on the G&G, CA, and AGM, I know what is inside of them, how they perform stock, and how easily/cheaply/practically they will take DMR upgrades

I would like it to shoot right under 400fps with a .2; which m14 platform would be the best for this? I would like to cut the cost down a bit but if the G&G is really worth then I will get that.

In that case it is a bit of a toss up, both should run an M120 well. Do you want to upgrade the ROF as well, or just buy one stock, drop in an M120, and run it on large 8.4v (or equivalent)?

I would like to upgrade the ROF as well. Although, I would probably find myself using semi-auto more often.

If you are going to add the extra stress of an M120 and want to use a higher output battery for a higher ROF, then go with the CA. The M14's wiring will likely not stand that for long.

A side note: Just because I point out well known flaws in otherwise great guns does not mean I hate that manufacturer, and just because I point out that there is no infallible brand, again, does not mean I have anything against that manufacturer. Don't take personal offense just because I say there is room for improvement in a gun you may own. This info needs to be know for people to make informed decisions, and is not to be taken personally or as offensive to those who may already own it. Also, just because you own a particular model by a particular manufacturer and are very happy with it does not mean it is the best gun in the world and is best for any and all applications .
