plate carriers?

Post by jgattis » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:54 pm

What brand of plate carriers do you guys have? And let me know if you like it or not. I'm in the market and see them from $100 to $600..  I don't mind spending the money for the good stuff but don't want to be an over kill!

Most airsofters use knock-off PC's. They're not nearly as durable as a real PC, but there's not much need for the quality of a real PC among most airsofters. Condor/OETech makes the best knock-off gear that I know of. They've recently started manufacturing with 1000d fabric, so they're plenty sturdy. You can find them anywhere... I think ASGI has most if not all of their product line.

I agree about most airsofters using knockoffs. If you look around on different sites though you can find some real gear for about the same price as the knockoff. Checkout LA Police Gear's closeout section. Both Blackhawk and Tactical Tailor's home sites will also run specials. Last time I looked on TT's site they were clearing out their Tan gear for 40% off because they are now going to a Coyote Brown instead.

For a list of what I've had...
UTG Plate Carrier
5.11 Plate Carrier
Blackhawk Plate Carrier
TT Modular Plate Carrier

Currently own TT Modular Panel Carrier

So far the panel carrier has been my favorite. It has a good balance between coverage, flexibility and comfort.

I have the condor Operators Plate Carrier.  I like it, it fits me well.  I've had an HSGI Wasatch and loved it, wish I never sold it.  I have an Eagle Industries Active Shooter Chest Rig, works great for RS, but it doesn't stay in place with airsoft mid caps in it.

I like to wear my rigs tight, I'm hoping in the near future to get a Pantac Replica Ciras since I have no need for a real world one.

I use a Matrix Tactical Systems LBV.

It is 40 bucks. It has MOLLE netting on the front and back. It also has a built in pouch for a hydration bladder.

It's the Evike brand so someone might make it for less. I'm not sure.

It's an LBV, not a PC, so it doesn't hold body armor, but for Airsoft, you don't really need it to.

Great for the price.

You may want to try something more expensive if you have enough money, but this works fine for me.

Pantac all day, nuff said.

Old BHI gear is a different animal than the stuff they are producing now, you'd be just as well suited with the new Condor over BlackHawk.

Flyye has great quality reps too, similar quality to Pantac.  Put you're hands on a quality piece and all the rest will feel cheap.

Another good thing about buying higher quality gear is that it hold it's value.  The PALS webbing is spaced properly and is rock solid unlike chinese 600D junk where the webbing folds and wrinkles.

Do you need high quality reps like Pantac and Flyye? No but if you have the money, don't mind spending it and appreciate quality go for it.  I'm not saying you need LBT, Eagle, HSGI or other "real steel" gear but higher end gear is def well worth it in my opinion.  I do run condor pouches on my tan/CB rigs, nothing wrong with them at all and very cost effective.

Hehe.. this is sorta funny that I just had this conversation last night with Lounger.

Gotta love the guys at Redwolf.. if I could pay for the $105 shipping for a Pantac Maritime CIRAS I would... but alas I can not.
So to make this situation not as saddening as it is, let us watch a Pantac vs Cheapo Chinese vest demo.

I use Condor, not good if your going to be deployed but good enough for airsoft. Almost a year old and no major wear.

As of the moment I have an ACM MBSS, but since it's in the mail still I can't testify to it's quality. :-X

I am now the proud owner of a Pantac Land Force Recon Vest (CIRAS rep), and I have owned a Condor/OE Tech PC in the past, I liked the both, but I can tell the Pantac is the higher quality stuff, no doubt.

I have been using a diamondback tactical Fast Attack Plate Carrier for a couple months now. This is the real one not the replica. It was $90 and well worth it. I absolutely love this vest. It only has front and back panels, which helps me lighten my gear with less space to put stuff. One note though is that it doesn't really work without some kind of plate as the pocket the plate goes in is pretty baggy when empty.

I use and have used a PANTAC RAV plate carrier for about four years now and it still looks brand new, and i absolutely love it, and would highly recommend PANTAC to any one.
